It was pretty obvious from the start that Baron Mordo will appear in Doctor Strange, although it wasn't known in what capacity. Was he going to be a full-blown villain? Was he going to suffer a transformation, a change of mind or heart during the movie?
Well, we might have just received the answer to that question - and then some. Yesterday, it was announced who will portray Baron Mordo and who will this character be exactly. Check it all out below!
Baron Mordo - revealing an actor
While Marvel has surprised many of fans with its casting choices, it seems that the studio is keeping it safe with Baron Mordo. For portraying one of Doctor Strange's most well-known antagonists, the studio has chosen an Oscar nominated actor, with multiple nominations at the Golden Globes.
And that actor is none other than Chiwetel Ejiofor, known for movies such as 12 Years A Slave, American Gangster and Children of Men. As far as his character is concerned, Baron Mordo won't necessarily be taken straight out of the comics.
Instead, expect for Marvel Studios and Disney to tamper just a bit with this character.
Changing Baron Mordo
The news that Chiwetel Ejiofor will portray Baron Mordo was released by Deadline. This isn't all, since they also revealed that this character will be an amalgamation of different characters from the Doctor Strange comic books.
And every new tidbit we find about Doctor Strange is very intriguing, from the gender-swapped Ancient One to this news, we are wondering what Marvel has in mind for this franchise.
The word that Mordo will be an amalgamation has led quite a few fans believe that, eventually, Baron Mordo will become a recurring villain in the Doctor Strange solo movies, everything building towards the character's full transformation into Dormammu.
Seems too wild? Well, maybe this is what that amalgamation presumes. In any way, nice job, Marvel! Chiwetel Ejiofor is one helluva actor!
