Following the historic Marvel/Sony deal of February 2015, Tom Holland became the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first Spider-Man and was introduced in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. And, in less than two weeks, Holland's webslinger will swing into theaters in his first standalone movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming. But fans are also aware of the fact that Avengers: Infinity War is also on the horizon. In that movie, Spider-Man will team up with the Earth's Mightiest Heroes as they contend with Thanos and his army of alien invaders.
During a recent interview with Fandango, Marvel President Kevin Feige warned that while the prospect of seeing Spider-Man in an Avengers movie is exciting, fans shouldn't expect him to have a much bigger role than he did in Civil War:
I think it might feel bigger a little bit because of Homecoming and because of what people know from it, but it’s about on par with [Civil War].
When asked whether additional Spider-Man: Homecoming characters might show up in Avengers: Infinity War, Feige responded:
There’s a pretty big crew already in those movies, but you might keep an eye out.
To be honest, it’s not surprising that Spider-Man’s role in the upcoming Russo Brothers flick is relatively small. We've been talking about the humongous Avengers: Infinity War cast, and Scarlett Johansson recently teased a scene featuring more than 30 characters.
Twenty to thirty minutes in a movie that crowded seems noteworthy enough. Of course, if Spider-Man: Homecoming is as good as the early reactions are suggesting, the superhero's role in the next Avengers movie may not seem big enough.
