We’re expecting Avengers: Infinity War to be the biggest ensemble film in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Russo Brothers want us to know that we’re right to set our expectations that high!
The duo, who also directed Marvel’s second and third Captain America installments, suggested in a new interview with CNET that those movies "both fail in comparison" with their two upcoming movies in terms of the sheer number of cast members. So far, we know that thirty-odd characters are set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, but this new interview seemed to indicate that there will be even more!
Joe Russo said that the upcoming May 4, 2018 release is packed with more surprises than any other MCU movie to date. Among them are a number of characters that fans aren't expecting to see:
There’s going to be a lot of unexpected characters. There are more surprises packed into this film than any of the others. Part of that is character interactions, new interesting characters, characters that have made small appearances that are really getting fleshed out in this film. A lot of people enjoy the experience, so I don’t want to give anything away, but certainly you can expect lots of surprises.
To be honest, there aren’t many characters in the 18 MCU movies (including Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther, both of which arrive before Avengers: Infinity War) whose return we haven't mentioned as we’ve speculated about this movie. We haven't even left out the dead ones! But there are hundreds of them, and it’s impossible to predict which characters the movie has in store for us.
