Avengers: Infinity War and its Sequel to Conclude Chris Evans’ Journey as Steve Rogers!

Chris Evans will say good-bye to Captain America role after Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel!

Since his 2011 introduction as Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger, Chris Evans has played the role in four more movies (excluding two uncredited cameos). He’s set to reprise the role in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel, due out in 2019. And, with those two movies, his journey as the iconic Marvel superhero will come to an end.

Esquire posted a new profile for the actor, stating that he will bid the Captain America role farewell after the next two Avengers movies:

Settling in on the couch, he groans. Evans explains that he’s hurting all over because he just started his workout routine the day before to get in shape for the next two Captain America films. The movies will be shot back-to-back beginning in April. After that, no more red- white-and-blue costume for the thirty-five-year-old. He will have fulfilled his contract.

The article revealed that Marvel Studios originally offered Evans a nine-picture deal. However, the actor didn't want to sign on for more than six movies, despite the fact that his family considered the offer to be secure and lucrative.

According to the article, Evans wanted to direct movies and play characters that were more lifelike, like the one in his upcoming movie, Gifted. But since he spends a great deal of time on preparation, filming, and promotional activities for each of his MCU installments, he finds very little time to take on other projects.

If Evans eventually refuses to extend his contract, Marvel might decide to kill off Steve Rogers in either of the two Avengers movies. At one time, the Russo Brothers did entertain the thought for Captain America: Civil War.

If they don't take that option, they could have him retire from the superhero business and let a different character - Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson or Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes - take up the Captain America mantle in future projects. Don't forget that Rogers had already given up the mantle in his third standalone movie, so it’s possible that he might not take it back at all.
