Asa Butterfield No Longer Spider-Man Contender!

Asa Butterfield no longer Spider-Man contender!

UPDATE: Spider-Man cast might officially be announced next week, suggests Deadline. According to what they have learned, Marvel & Sony could finalize the decision next week. We can be sure that Tom Holland is in Atlanta as he posted an image from Topgolf Atlanta recently via his Instagram account. Whether or not it is a coincidence remains the questions for now.

Blame me for not keeping shut until official Spider-Man casting announcement, but I can't do so because there's another round of drama circling the role! We've been hearing the name of Ender's Game star Asa Butterfield for a while as the frontrunner, or at least one of the frontrunners, for the role of Spider-Man, but now it seems he is no longer in the race!

In the latest edition of Meet The Movie Press, The Wrap correspondent Jeff Sneider claims that the actor isn't in the race any longer! Marvel and Sony have shortlisted three actors from the six auditioned actors and Butterfield isn't one of them.

According to ComicBookMovie, it might be Butterfield himself to have messed up his chances to play the web-slinger by discussing his potential casting on Reddit. I, personally, think that might be the case as Marvel is that kind of a studio who wouldn't like the actors to speak up before they want them to.

Three Actors Shortlisted For Spider-Man Role!

Holland, Plummer & Lintz – the three contenders!

According to Sneider, the three contenders for the role of Spider-Man at the moment are Tom Holland, Charlie Plummer and Matthew Lintz. Holland is the one Sony are interested in while Marvel have their eyes on Plummer, suggests the veteran correspondent.

Not Three But Two Contenders For The Role!

That's not the end! Devin Faraci of BirthMoviesDeath reports that the information received from his Sony sources contradict a bit. According to them, Charlie Plummer and Matthew Lintz haven't been shortlisted, rather it's Charlie Rowe who stands alongside Tom Holland as the frontrunners for the role of Spider-Man. Take everything with a grain of salt - that's the best suggestion I can offer at the moment!

Chandler Riggs Auditioned For Spider-Man Role!

Meanwhile, there's another actor who confirms that he had been auditioned for the role of Spider-Man, but unfortunately couldn't make it. It is The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs who posted on both Twitter and Facebook, "good luck to whoever lands the spiderman role- it would have been awesome for me!" While replying to a comment on his Facebook post, Riggs revealed that he had auditioned for the role "˜a couple of months ago'.

Nothing more for the moment! Stay tuned for more updates (or should I say more drama!) on Spider-Man casting! And do drop your thoughts via comments!
