It’s already been confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will not feature Thanos or any of the Infinity Stones that connected the band of anti-heroes to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the original movie. But the latest rumor suggests that James Gunn's sequel will have some ties with another of MCU's 2017 installments, Thor: Ragnarok.
According to That Hashtag Show, in the Taika Waititi venture, Thor and Hulk will encounter a certain ancient alien race that has links to a new superhero who is set to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
This race that will appear in Thor: Ragnarok is known as the Cotati, and the new superhero we are talking about is Pom Klementieff's Mantis.
In the comic books, the Cotati are depicted typically as a stationary plant-like species with telepathic powers. They are the ones who awakened the powers within Mantis. In Thor: Ragnarok, they will apparently look similar to Pom Klementieff's character.
The Cotati originated on the planet named Hala, which is also the home to the Kree. So, we can assume that Hala is likely one of the destinations during Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder and Mark Ruffalo's Green Rage Monster’s universal road trip in Thor: Ragnarok.
Does that mean that Mantis, too, is appearing in the November 3, 2017 release? That Hashtag Show's sources couldn't confirm that. But with the May 5, 2017 release already having wrapped up its production, Klementieff may not find it too difficult to make a trip to Australia where Thor: Ragnarok has been filming for a month. The question remains if Marvel wants it or not!
