Wonder Woman: Studio Won’t Lift Review Embargo Anytime Soon

When Warner Bros. waited until the very last possible moment to lift the review embargoes for both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, their reasoning became obvious. If the critics' reaction turned out to be negative, it could actually have had an adverse effect on the movies by preventing them from becoming true box office behemoths. Despite what appeared to be positive early Twitter reactions for both, the movies failed to impress most of the fans. Could this be the case with Wonder Woman, as well?

Early tweets about the movie have praised director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot. However, it doesn’t appear that Wonder Woman is receiving the same early love as Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad did, and some of the comments are rather ambiguous. The reason for this might be traced to the studio’s attitude toward Diana Prince's first solo adventure.

Wonder Woman 2016 (Independent)

As with the previous movies, Warner Bros. has decided to maintain the embargo on critics' reviews until the very last moment. The movie’s red carpet premiere is scheduled for the 25th of May, but fans won't know what the critics think until the 31st of May. So it appears that the studio doesn't believe that Wonder Woman will meet expectations.

Of course, it could very well be something else entirely. We've seen four trailers and a couple of TV spots, but quite a few unknown details remain. Most importantly, we still have no information on the movie’s main antagonist, although everything points to David Thewlis in the role of Ares, the God of War. So the studio could be attempting to prevent spoilery details from coming out too soon.

We hope that the studio’s reasoning has more to do with the latter explanation.
