The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg is playing Lex Luthor in next year's highly anticipated flick "“ and probably the most anticipated one – Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. This isn't the first time we are going to watch this Superman arch-nemesis on live-action – actors like Gene Hackman, John Shea and Kevin Spacey have portrayed Lex Luthor on various big and small screen adaptations.
So, what makes Jesse Eisenberg's version of the character different? The actor has responded to such question in a recent interview with MTV. According to Jesse, his Lex Luthor isn't "˜a silly villainous character'. He claims that there's "˜an emotional core' to the character.
The actor also claims that he didn't have to look back at any of Gene Hackman's performances in the Christopher Reeve starrer Superman movies. He thinks that his Lex Luthor is "˜an entirely different thing'. The actor explains:
“Also, the tone of that movies is so different, like that movie wouldn’t be made now. Like the way we expect movies to be now is to have some kind of – I mean, it’s probably for the best – there’s some kind of psychological accuracy. That the person is coming from a place probably diagnosable in some way.”
