Tom Hardy Has Left the Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad - now without Tom Hardy

When the cast for Suicide Squad was announced (check it out in here), things looked awesome for the David Ayer (Fury, Training Day, End of Watch) movie - Suicide Squad seemed to most anticipated DC movie, outside of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Jared Leto and so on are all Hollywood names everybody has heard of.

However, as of yesterday, one of these big stars has left the project - Tom Hardy (one of the most prominent stars of the recent years) has blamed the schedule for this departure. But is it so?

Sure, The Revenant (with Leonardo DiCaprio) is going over schedule and the Bane actor also has to do some promotional tours for Mad Max: Fury Road (the trailers are in here) - but it is still pretty thin"¦

Tom Hardy as a second fiddle

The main reason seems to be another one - Suicide Squad had its script recently rewritten, with Deadshot and the Joker becoming the main characters of the film. This must have upset Tom Hardy a bit, since he has decided to leave the project.

However, this was an amiable departure - otherwise, the actor wouldn't have come with an excuse like the one mentioned above.

A replacement

But this isn't all, since both Warner Bros and David Ayer are already courting another actor, with even more credentials than Tom Hardy. And this actor is none other than Jake Gyllenhaal with which David Ayer has done a terrific job in End of Watch.

Furthermore, Jake Gyllenhaal has expressed his desire of appearing in a comic book adaptation time and time again. As you may have heard, he made the shortlist for playing Doctor Strange (until Benedict Cumberbatch was cast) - but he also came close to replacing Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 2, as well as auditioning for the role of Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins.

The question is"¦

will Jake Gyllenhaal want to replace Tom Hardy in the role of Rick Flag now that we know that this character (the leader of the Suicide Squad) will only be a secondary one?
