The Rock Wants Lone Ranger Star to Play Shazam

Dwayne The Rock Johnson’s announcement that Black Adam would have his own solo film – most likely an origin story to be released before 2019's Shazam! – was one of 2017’s major surprises. To a certain degree, this surprise was even bigger than Johnson’s previous statement that Black Adam was among the most interesting DC superheroes.

He may have one of the busiest schedules in Hollywood, but Johnson has still had time to hype his DC Extended Universe role. Although Liam Hemsworth and Derek Theler have been thrown into the mix of possible Shazam actors, the wrestler-turned-actor has someone else in mind.

Shazam (DC Comics)

The Rock told We Got This Covered that he wouldn’t name any of the candidates for the role. However, he did drop the title Lone Ranger (the critically panned bomb starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer):

I'm not even going to tell you his name; I'm just going to say Lone Ranger"¦I just remember meeting him and walking away going, “Man, that guy would look great, I bet, as Shazam.” And, by the way, he's one of a handful.

We’re sure he wasn't talking about Johnny Depp. Armie Hammer has the perfect physical build for the role, so it kind of makes sense. This endorsement from Johnson could help Hammer land the role (if he’s interested, of course, and despite not having a great resume), even though Johnson said that Hammer is just one of a handful.

To be noted, Armie Hammer has teased a DC Extended Universe role for ages now (Hal Jordan), although he recently said that he was just having fun with it.

What do you think? Do you see Armie Hammer as Shazam, trading blows with Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam?
