Last week, The Flash lost its second director. This would mean nothing, since it often happens with big movies. The big problem is that it happened so late in preproduction, with just a couple of months before the actual shooting begins. Director Rick Famuyiwa departed, citing creative differences, after he already cast a couple of actors for The Flash (Billy Crudup as Henry Allen and Kiersey Clemons as Iris West).
Kiersey Clemons (who worked with Rick Famuyiwa on the critically acclaimed Dope) expressed her disappointment at the director’s departure. According to the actress, she took the role of Iris West because she had such a successful collaboration with the director:
Rick was one of the main reasons I wanted to do the movie. So him not being a part of it is obviously very upsetting to me (via CBM).
However, the actress also said that she'll give her all for the role and try to bring the character to life, as any professional actor would do:
All I can do is give it up to the gods. Let’s see what happens. Let’s see who’s going to jump in. Ezra and I are going to do what we promised to do from the beginning. No matter who the director is, I am going to do what I think Iris should be.
There are many fans who believe that Kiersey Clemons would make a great Iris West, even if the character’s race has been changed from the comics. The fact that the most recent reports say that the actress has already shot a cameo for Justice League is also a good thing, signaling her commitment to the role.
But, as said, it’s a bit late in the production of the film to switch directors. So the question remains: Will The Flash be released on the 16th of March 2018, as scheduled, or will it be delayed?
