The Dark Knight: Christian Bale’s Batman Suit Auctioned for $250K

Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight has been a fan favorite since it debuted in theatres in 2008. And the film’s popularity is evidently still at peak levels"”the Batman suit Christian Bale wore in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises just sold at auction for $250,000.

The auction was run by The Prop Store, a film memorabilia company in the UK, and it included more than 500 props and other in-demand movie items. Along with the Batsuit, the Batpod from the Nolan films sold for more than $400,000, and Bane’s costume went for about $125,000. Other notable items included a mask from The Goonies ($46,733), FBI badges from The X-Files ($19,472), and a clapperboard from Jaws ($109,000).

Stephen Lane of The Prop Store told Bloomberg that the prices for the Batman items exceeded expectations. “We managed to get some world-record prices there, which is very exciting for us,” he said. “The activity across the board was pretty unprecedented.”

Lane also added that the bidders in auctions like this one are typically private buyers, so the Dark Knight items are unlikely to make any public appearances in the future"”sad news for the convention-going crowd.

"These don't get worn by anybody,” Lane said of the costumes. “They really end up in glass display cases."
