The Batman Rumor: Affleck Wants Out

It seems that the DCEU can't get a break. After a couple of movies that were poorly received by the critics, after losing the director of The Flash due to creative differences, and after Ben Affleck decided to step down as director of the upcoming Batman reboot, it seems that Warner Bros. is about to lose yet another star.

And this star is none other than Ben Affleck himself. This is a shame, given the fact that his character was the best part of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Of course, this is just a rumor. But it can be said that it’s a believable one, especially since it comes from the same source who previously said he’d step down from the director's chair. On the latest episode of Collider Movie Talk, host John Campea said that he’d heard that Affleck doesn't want to portray Bruce Wayne/Batman in the solo movie. According to Campea, Affleck is having discussions with the studio.

If these discussions fail, Affleck will appear in the standalone movie, but it will be his final appearance in the DCEU. Which means that Zack Snyder (or whoever ends up directing Justice League 2) will have to replace The Batman in the roster or find someone else to portray the character. In the latter case, it would be mind-bending to try to explain how Bruce Wayne/Batman’s appearance has changed from one DCEU movie to the next.

Furthermore, if Affleck and the studio don't reach an agreement, and Affleck leaves the shared universe, we could soon hear that there will be extensive reshoots for this year's Justice League.

Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt. For the moment, the actor has stepped down from the director's chair in order to focus on playing the character (but, at the same time, he did say previously that he’d direct the Batman solo movie).
