Over the past couple of weeks, it appeared that Ben Affleck might not direct the upcoming Batman solo flick. In an interview with The Guardian, the actor/director said that the project is not set in stone. His choice of words made the fans anxious to know more about the progress he’d made with the script and everything else concerning The Batman (after all, he is one of the best known superheroes out there, as well as – apparently – the only character Warner Bros. can get right).
But it was revealed afterward that Ben Affleck will indeed direct the solo movie. However, there's just a lot of pressure on him. During the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, while promoting Live by Night (which appears to be his first failure as a director), Affleck was once again asked if he'll direct or not. He replied that nobody was interested in the progress of Live by Night - Affleck said that he worked on the project for a year and a half before shooting started.
As he’s said plenty of times, Batman is a different kind of beast - and there are high expectations. He doesn't want to do a subpar Batman flick, because he would never get away with it.
Initially, the studio wanted to begin shooting the movie this spring, and Affleck agreed to that (Joe Manganiello, who portrays Deathstroke, was actually preparing for a spring shoot). But it hasn't worked out that way, and nobody knows at this point how big the delay will be.
But we guess it’s safe to say that Ben Affleck will indeed direct, write (together with Geoff Johns), star in, and produce the movie. We just hope that we won't have to wait for too long.
