During an interview at Cinema Con, Suicide Squad actress Karen Fukuhara talked about her role in the upcoming Suicide Squad. Given the fact that her character is a superhero in the comics, rather than a supervillain, some clarifications were needed as to why she has joined the Suicide Squad.
Thus, the actress said that her character is loyal to Amanda Waller, as it was previously rumored, and that she works with Rick Flag in order to keep the squad in line. In a way, as the actress said, she is a warrior who also works as a bodyguard for the official leader of the squad: “She’s very loyal to Amanda Waller and Rick Flag. She works under them and keeps a rowdy bunch in line. She’s a protector and a fierce warrior.”
More importantly, the actress also talked about her trademark weapon from the Suicide Squad. Called the Soultaker, the weapon is a special katana that stores the souls of those it kills inside. According to the actress, there is a particular scene in the movie, in which she gets to talk with one of those souls - the soul of Maseo, Katana's husband: “She has her husband’s soul in her sword, and I got to talk to Maseo throughout the film and yes, of course that’s in the film, but you’ll have to wait and see how much of it plays into the movie.”
The actress also said that she performed all of the stunts in the movie herself, save for one. Thus, except for a dive role, Karen Fukuhara has trained intensely for the Suicide Squad, having learned to sword fight, run on moving cars, and so on - pretty interesting, we believe.
