As far as the DC Extended Universe's current timeline is concerned, there are six movies to be released before Shazam comes out. The movie is scheduled to release on April 5, 2019. Hiram Garcia, the VP of Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia's Seven Bucks Productions, will serve as one of the movie’s producers.
In a recent interview with Comic Book, the producer offers an update on Shazam's development. According to Garcia:
We’re a good way into development. We’re expecting a next draft soon, which I think is really gonna put us in the zone that we’re hoping for.
It's obviously good to know that the movie is well into development. Maybe when they have a script ready, they can finally hire a director to helm and an actor to play the titular superhero. At this point, Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam is the only confirmed cast member.
In the interview, Hiram Garcia discusses the tone of the Shazam movie. And from what he says, it will be different in tone from the recently released Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Shazam will have a grounded tone, but it will also have some fun injected into it. Garcia explains:
Our take on that world is first and foremost, movies like that can be grounded and can have real stakes but that doesn’t mean they can’t be a blast. That’s the space we always want it to come from. We have a character in Shazam that is a boy who is in this man’s body who is having the ultimate fulfillment that I think all comic book fans and everyone can associate with"¦That combination of youth and enthusiasm and being new to a world, and then the place that Adam’s coming from. It makes for a great dynamic that not only allows us to not only have real stakes, real story, and real emotion, but a ton of fun in the process.
The producer states that Shazam is a project that has "always been a priority to him" and that his vision for the movie and its story is "so clear". He promises that they are not "gonna f*ck this up" and that they are "gonna knock this thing out of the park". He concludes by saying that Shazam will be "a blast" and "a dope ride".
This man definitely deserves 10 out of 10 for his enthusiasm toward the project!
