We've known for a while that Ares will be the big baddie in Wonder Woman, but we haven't been sure who will play the part. Danny Huston appeared in army officer regalia in the trailers, fueling speculation that he’s the God of War in the upcoming standalone female superhero movie.
However, if a new rumor is to be believed, the Clash of the Titans star isn’t portraying the character; David Thewlis is! Batman News claims to have learned from multiple sources that the actor – most recognized as Professor Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter movies – will play the supervillain in Wonder Woman.
According to the outlet, Patty Jenkins is using a mix of CGI and practical effects to bring Ares to life, devoting a significant amount of post-production time to perfecting the CGI effects. This is probably why the supervillain hasn't appeared in any of the trailers released so far.
But around nine months have passed since Wonder Woman wrapped up production, and re-shoots are reportedly complete as well. So we could expect to catch at least a glimpse of Ares in the next trailer.
We should note that the rumor about David Thewlis as Ares is just that: a rumor. We should take it with a grain of salt until we have an official confirmation.
