Michelle Pfeiffer, who’s set to star as Janet van Dyne in Ant Man and the Wasp, said that Peyton Reed's work on the first Ant-Man flick convinced her to accept the role. She added that the script has a rather unusual tone for a superhero movie, but it also features the humor that was a big part of the success of the first installment (via Variety).
Pfeiffer’s role in Ant-Man and the Wasp isn't her first foray into the realm of comic book movies. As everybody knows, she was Catwoman in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. Despite the fact that other actresses have played the anti-heroine in the 25 years since Batman Returns was released, a good number of fans believe that Pfeiffer was the only one who did the character justice (leaving aside the origin story).
During the same Variety interview, Pfeiffer praised Tim Burton for his work on the Batman sequel:
It was all Tim Burton. He was able to bring this heart and darkness and humor to it.
The actress went on to say that if the opportunity presented itself, she'd very much like to return as Catwoman, but she’d never go the lengths she went to in 1992. Of course, she was referring to the scene in which she held a live bird in her mouth:
I can't believe I did that. I could have gotten a disease.
Since that time, two other versions of Catwoman have shown up on the big screen. Halle Berry played 2004’s version, and Anne Hathaway took on the role in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.
We're still in love with Pfeiffer's version of the character. There’s a chance that an older Selina Kyle could appear in future DCEU or Elseworlds movies, so maybe Warner Bros. should look into this opportunity.
Don't you agree?
