The Killing Joke Will Premiere at SDCC

The Killing Joke

Batman: The Killing Joke is one of the most anticipated DC animated movies of recent years, if not of all time. The adaptation of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's masterpiece will see the return of Mark Hamill as the Joker and Kevin Conroy as the Batman - and these actors are, according to many fans, the best at bringing these 2 characters to life.

And we don't say that this is the most anticipated animated flick for nothing. The Killing Joke graphic novel debuted about 28 years ago. And yet it has become this May's best-selling graphic novel, partly because of the animated adaptation, partly because of the Suicide Squad movie waiting to be released. And that is saying something. Batman: The Killing Joke is set to be released on the 26th of July this year. However, it will debut earlier than that, on the 22nd. It’s already been announced that the main cast will attend this year's San Diego Comic Con, including both Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy.

To be noted, this is the first R-rated project in the DCAU, and an extremely bold move on the studio’s part. But after hearing this news, we’re more certain now than ever before that it won't backfire. As Deadpool has proved, comic book movie fans are eager to see new and more mature takes on classic storylines. So the Killing Joke has the chance to be the biggest hit as far as the animated movies are concerned.

And, since the DC animated movies haven’t been overly successful since the Flashpoint Paradox was released, with only one managing to surpass the $6 million mark, DC and Warner Bros. need this to be a big hit.

But we will find out if it will be in less than two months, when Batman: The Killing Joke is released.
