The latest DC Universe Animated Original Movie, Batman and Harley Quinn, won't be released until August. However, the DVD special features list has surfaced online, and it contains a major surprise for Caped Crusader fans.
Multiple websites report that the next animated DC Comics-based film will be an adaptation of Gotham by Gaslight, the story of a Victorian-era confrontation between Batman and the infamous Jack the Ripper.
Check out the official synopsis, via CBM:
In an age of mystery and superstition, how would the people of Gotham react to a weird creature of the night, a bat-garbed vigilante feared by the guilty and the innocent alike? The very first Elseworlds tale re-imagines the Dark Knight detective in Victorian times and pits him against the infamous murderer Jack the Ripper.
Obviously, it’s too early to talk about the cast or a potential release date. However, that same website reports that Jennifer Carpenter will voice Catwoman.
Since April, we’ve been hearing that Carpenter would voice a character in an upcoming DC animated movie, but we’ve heard nothing since that time. We should note that there have been rumors that Warner Bros. planned to bring this Elseworlds story to the small screen.
Of course, some of the DC animated movie universe fans are a bit disappointed, since this will mark yet another film featuring Batman. Other characters, including Wonder Woman and even Superman, are being sidetracked, and there are numerous stories to be told.
But if Gotham by Gaslight turns out to be good, won’t the fans forget their initial disappointment? And who knows? Maybe someone will make a Red Son animated movie sometime soon (since everybody agrees with the report that said that a live action movie on this particular story wouldn't be a good fit for the DCEU).
