The world premiere trailer for “Batman – The Telltale Series“ has just been released, giving us our first look at the upcoming episodic adventure video game series by Telltale Games. It finds Bruce Wayne mired in the web of political intrigue and corruption strangling Gotham City as he tries to save it both as himself and as his vigilante alter ego.
Telltale Games announced the new title last December at The Game Awards in Los Angeles, saying that “this iteration of Batman will give fans a first-hand opportunity to dive deeper into the complex life and mind of Bruce Wayne, the duality of his own identity, and the struggle of responsibility in saving a city overcome with corruption and villainy.”
“Batman – The Telltale Series” will feature voice actors Troy Baker as Bruce Wayne, Enn Reitel as Alfred Pennyworth, Murphy Guyer as Lt. James Gordon, Travis Willingham as Harvey Dent, Laura Bailey as Selina Kyle, Richard McGonagle as Carmine Falcone and Erin Yvette as Vicki Vale.
Players will find themselves taking on the role of Batman as both the crime-fighting superhero and as the billionaire Bruce Wayne, with time between them about evenly split. Its story, set a few years after Wayne becomes Batman, will provide a “fresh interpretation of the universe set in current times, not tied to any existing iteration of Batman in games, film, or comics,” according to Telltale Games CEO Kevin Bruner.
“We’ve been hard at work at Telltale creating an all-new iteration of the iconic Batman story that puts players in the suit of billionaire Bruce Wayne,” says Bruner, “just as much as it will put them behind the mask, deciding how to carefully navigate a complex drama, rich with action, crime, corruption, and villainy lurking around every corner of Gotham City.”
“Batman – The Telltale Series” will be available for digital download on home consoles, PC/Mac, and iOS and Android devices this August. Like other episodic Telltale titles, it will be sold as a “Season Pass Disc” that includes the first of five episodes of the season, with access to the remaining four being granted as they are made available through online updates.
