Doomsday – Zack Snyder Explains His Choice

Doomsday

The final trailer for Batman v Superman revealed who is the big baddie to unite Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman – it is none other than Doomsday, who is famously known for being the one to kill (temporarily, of course) Superman. For this reason, many believe that this is too early to introduce such an iconic character, who certainly deserved at least one solo Superman flick.

Talking about Doomsday, director Zack Snyder said that this character does have a story of his own and that he will lead into subsequent storylines further down the road.

In the comics, Doomsday is an ancient Kryptonian biological weapon, who knows nothing than hate and destruction. It is the perfect soldier who cannot die and who becomes immune to every form of damage. In Batman v Superman he isn't that. Instead, it is what Lex Luthor achieves after tampering with Zod's genetic code. And this, in a way, can mirror the origin of the comic book version.

Taking into account what Snyder said, we can say that this is a newborn villain, one who did not have the chance to evolve too much. So, at this point, we can assume that just the Trinity will be enough to destroy him in a single movie act.

But also taking into account the director's words, we can assume that this isn't the last time we hear about Doomsday: "Well, you have Doomsday, right? He doesn't just crawl out of the ground. He has his own mythology, right? So that has to be explored.  To us it really made sense to give [Doomsday] to the audience now. I really wanted to make the audience a promise that"¦ though I'm super excited and happy and fulfilled by the conflict of Batman and Superman, there's also a bigger world to start to think about." (via Comic Book Movie)

In other words, the events from Batman v Superman will ripple throughout the upcoming DCEU movies. In what way? We don't know. But seeing that Snyder will also direct Justice League, is it too hard to believe that Doomsday will make a resurgence somewhere down the road and receive the attention he deserves?

Zack Snyder also added that introducing Doomsday makes sense from another point of view as well - and that is the misdirection of the fans: "It allows for a coherent universe, which is important.  I think that makes the experience a little more satisfying because we know where we're going, so the misdirects can be stronger and the reveals can be bigger.

Well, this isn't ambiguous at all"¦ What do you make of this?

Will Doomsday appear in other DCEU movies as well? Or was this all just misdirection?
