A couple of days ago, we came across a photo from Justice League featuring Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Ben Affleck's Batman, and Ezra Miller's The Flash. While we’re going to see Diana Prince team up with the other DC superheroes in the November 17, 2017 release, it won't be the first time she appears on big screen during that year. Gadot's character will find herself at center stage next summer in Patty Jenkins' standalone Wonder Woman movie.
Entertainment Weekly has released a new photo from the June 2, 2017 release that offers a new look at Diana. The photo captures the moment when she steals the Amazons’ mythical sword - the "God Killer" - after disobeying her mother, Connie Nielsen's Queen Hippolyta, and breaking into Themyscira's heavily guarded armory. This is before she leaves her idyllic all-female homeland for Europe to save humankind from some evil force. Check it out below!
Here's what the movie's director had to say about the photo:
This is her moment. She's heard all the terrible things about man's land. But she's also heard that mankind is in need and under duress. This is her great moment to make the decision to be the one to try and save them.
Which gods’ blood has the sword spilled in the past, and who will Diana fight using the weapon? Such questions are yet to be answered officially, and it's likely that we’ll have to wait for the answers until Wonder Woman rolls into theaters.
However, producer Charles Roven explained in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter how the Patty Jenkins flick would differ from previous DC Extended Universe installments:
Wonder Woman is an origination story, so the whole dynamic and the plot moves are different than other DC movies. There’s also a great relationship between her and the guy [played by Chris Pine] who crash-lands on her island and is the trigger mechanism for her going back to man’s world.
