Actually, everybody knows that Batman v Superman was the starting point of the DCEU, although it is the second film of the franchise. BvS introduced the entire Justice League (more or less), cemented the tone of the universe, and created the premise for all things to come. And to say that Batman v Superman disappointed is an understatement, since the fans got at best a couple of kick-ass moments (that also made sense), after three years of waiting.
There was only one man to blame for this terrible DCEU start, and that man was Zack Snyder, who had already made the divisive Man of Steel. And, obviously, everyone who got tired of defending these two movies (and not just those people) asked for his head. It didn't happen; Zack Snyder will also direct the first major DCEU ensemble film, Justice League Part One.
However, changes have been made and everybody is now hoping for the best. According to an exclusive report from the Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder will no longer be the brains behind the DCEU. Instead, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg will act as executive producers for all future DCEU movies.
Geoff Johns is best known, obviously, for producing and writing a host of comic book related projects, mainly for the small screen (he wrote the Green Lantern movie, but he will also write Ben Affleck's The Batman).
Jon Berg has already collaborated with Ben Affleck on Argo and the upcoming Live by Night. Additionally, he’s worked on the Sherlock Holmes movies, as well as The Dark Knight Rises, Edge of Tomorrow, and American Sniper.
So, in a way, and given the connections being made (Ben Affleck is also producing, if only for now, Justice League and The Batman), the DCEU is in good hands. And, seeing that Batman v Superman made $869 million less at the box office worldwide over eight weeks than Captain America: Civil War’s $957 million, it was about damn time!
