Charles Roven’s Role to be Reduced in Some Upcoming DCEU Movies!

Charles Roven's role in several DCEU movies to be reduced!

In the wake of Batman v Superman's not-so-good performance, Warner Bros. has already made a couple of big changes in relation to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). First, they added Ben Affleck as an executive producer of Justice League: Part One. Then, they appointed Jon Berg and Geoff Johns to co-run the DC Films banner.

And now, they’re about to make another move. According to Variety, Charles Roven's role in several DCEU movies will likely be reduced. He won't serve as a "day-to-day manager and producer" in upcoming movies like The Flash and Aquaman. Instead, he will act as an executive producer.

Charles Roven is, of course, a veteran producer, and has been in Hollywood since the 1980s. He not only served as a producer of the first two DCEU movies; he also performed the same duty for each of three Batman movies directed by Christopher Nolan. A studio spokesperson tells the outlet the following:

Roven is a key member of not only the DC slate but of the Warner Bros. family.

So, the studio doesn't intend to sack Roven entirely. They’re not reducing his role in the DCEU movies that have already wrapped up production, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman.

And he will also keep serving as a producer of Justice League: Part One, which is currently filming in London. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has sent Jon Berg to "oversee the day-to-day production" of the movie.

It’s also reported that Roven may continue to be a producer on some DCEU sequels. But they haven't reached a "final decision" about that.

These changes tend to suggest that Warner Bros. did expect a lot more from Batman v Superman. Maybe if the movie had grossed at least $1 billion at the worldwide box office, the studio might have not shaken things up.

However, since the movie stopped its theatrical run with $870 million, the studio seems to be unwilling to rely any longer on the unofficial DCEU brain trust that included Roven and Zack Snyder.
