Much controversy ensued after Ben Affleck was cast as the DCEU’s Batman, but even with the negative fan reaction, he turned out to be a highlight of Batman v Superman. In fact, he made such an impression that Warner Bros. decided to put him in charge of The Batman reboot.
That didn't pan out, though, as Affleck eventually stepped down as the solo flick’s director and writer. Then the actor indicated after Justice League was released that he wanted to begin to work his way out of the DCEU.
But according to the most recent rumors (via Screen Rant), Affleck’s desire to play the Caped Crusader – and even star in Matt Reeves' The Batman – is still intact. In addition, there have been reports that he’ll join the director at San Diego Comic Con 2018 to officially announce the reboot and when shooting’s scheduled to begin.
Walter Hamada, the new DC film production president at Warner Bros., isn't ready to let Affleck go, although there’s been no word of who Matt Reeves might have in mind to take on the lead role in The Batman.
Considering that Steven Spielberg signed on as a producer – and possibly director – just after Hamada was appointed, it would seem that the president of production wields quite a bit of influence. But in the end, Reeves will have the final say on whether Affleck will star in the Batman.
We feel that Affleck’s been an excellent Caped Crusader so far. And isn’t it a bit early to count him out? What do you think?
