Gavin O'Connor's action thriller The Accountant will hit the theaters later this month, and to promote the movie, star Ben Affleck has been giving interviews and attending events. In a few of these recent interviews, the actor has offered some exciting tidbits about the upcoming Batman standalone movie, for which he is co-writer, director, and lead actor.
Multiple reports over the last year or so have claimed that the movie's title is The Batman. While speaking with The Associated Press, Affleck confirms that this is the title they are "going with now", before insisting that he "might change it" in the future. He adds that they are working on the script, which is "going well", and he's "really excited" about the movie. You can check out the interview clip below!
During his interview with IGN, Affleck is asked why he selected Deathstroke as the main antagonist of The Batman. In response, the actor says that it's hard for him to explain in exact words, but notes that the fan reaction to the announcement "spoke for itself". He adds:
It just seems like a great counterpart to Batman. They’re similar in terms of skillsets, they’re similar in terms of tone, and he’s never been utilized in a movie before, which is really, really exciting.
It has already been confirmed that True Blood star Joe Manganiello will be portraying the iconic supervillain in the DC Extended Universe. Affleck thinks that Manganiello is a "great" actor and is "going to be great" in The Batman.
In a separate interview with Collider, Affleck claims that Deathstroke is "a great villain" and suggests that he "just had an instinctive feeling" that the character would match up well with the Caped Crusader. He also reveals that he is a big fan of the supervillain. According to the actor:
You know, I'm a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52, the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.
