Being the most divisive superhero flick in recent times has its perks - especially when the movie in question is Batman v Superman. Zack Snyder's second film in the DCEU didn't make a splash at the box office, as it was supposed to. As a matter of fact, given the time it spent in production and the huge marketing campaign behind it, Batman v Superman can be considered a failure. It didn't even manage to make as much as Deadpool did in the US, with a budget about five times bigger.
However, as said, being divisive has its perks. The second movie in the DCEU, Batman v Superman actually managed to attract the attention of the general audiences. And that especially since an Ultimate Cut was released on Blu-ray. Is this version of Batman v Superman better than the theatrical cut?
This seems to be the question now - and lots of people want to find that out. Otherwise, it couldn't be explained why the Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman has topped the Blu-ray sales charts in its first week, becoming one of the most sought after movies ever on this medium.
It does count that it didn't have any contenders for this first spot. However, we don't believe that this has anything to do with the huge numbers.
Thus, according to Home Media Magazine, 70 percent of those who have purchased Batman v Superman have opted for the Ultimate Cut version, whereas only 30 percent have decided on the DVD containing the theatrical cut.
It remains to be seen if, unlike the theatrical cut, the Ultimate Cut will have strong legs. The only other notable movies to be released this August are Angry Birds and The Jungle Book, which come out after the 20th of August.
