Batman v Superman: US Run Ends with Disappointment

The Trinity

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has officially ended its run in the US. And to say that it was disappointing would be an understatement. In the 12 weeks since its release, Batman v Superman has grossed a little over $330 million dollars in the US, beating its predecessor, Man of Steel, by about $40 million.

To put things in perspective, Guardians of the Galaxy, the least known Marvel property prior to its release date, made $333 million dollars. So, until now, the best movie for DC and Warner Bros. still remains The Dark Knight, with $534 million dollars. To add insult to injury, more than half of the money made by Batman v Superman in the US came from the opening weekend.

Given the big budget, the cost of the promotion, the reshoots, and so on, the big event of the DCEU turned just a small profit compared to other modern comic book movies. Even so, it’s safe to assume that Warner Bros. has found a bit of satisfaction nonetheless, since the movie managed to basically start (in a rushed way, but still) the DCEU.

Obviously, the fans are now waiting for the Ultimate Cut, pretty much as they did with other Zack Snyder flicks, because they are hoping that some of the big plot holes of the film will be fixed. And, by the looks of it, it appears that they will be - 30 minutes of additional footage is quite a lot.

And, of course, the question remains: Why did Warner Bros. decide to butcher the film? There have been plenty of movies released since that have been longer"¦Anyway, Batman v Superman has managed one other thing - it has convinced Warner Bros. that the future of the DCEU shouldn't rest solely in the hands of Zack Snyder.
