Although Aquaman has been filming for about six months, and is expected to wrap production later this month, Graham McTavish, (Dwalin in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, The Hobbit), just confirmed that he’s landed a role in the James Wan flick.
McTavish took to Twitter to announce that he’ll appear in Aquaman, and Warner Bros. has finally allowed him to make his involvement public. However, he added that he still doesn’t have permission from the studio to disclose his character’s identity. He did make it clear that he won’t replace Jason Momoa as the King of the Seven Seas! In addition to his role as the Middle-earth dwarf, McTavish also appeared in Secretariat, The Wicker Tree, Creed, and The Finest Hours. He’s also had main roles in the television shows Outlander (Starz) and Preacher (AMC), and has contributed his voice to several animated movies and TV series.
We can't be certain which character McTavish will play in Aquaman. There are already quite a few baddies, so it doesn’t seem likely that he’ll play one, unless it's a minor role. It's also possible that the Scottish actor is just lending his voice for a CGI character in the December 21, 2018 release.
McTavish joins a cast roster that already includes Momoa as the titular superhero; Amber Heard as Mera; Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master; Nicole Kidman as Atlanna; Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta; Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko; Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus; Ludi Lin as Murk; and Michael Beach as Jesse Kane.
