With Suicide Squad already in the theaters, Warner Bros. has ten more DC Extended Universe installments scheduled for release until 2020. While the list includes standalone movies for Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg, Shazam and Green Lantern, a Man of Steel sequel isn't among them. This isn't something many had expected, since the June 14, 2013 release proved to be the highest-grossing Superman movie to date.
Back in 2013 when the studio announced Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it was supposed to be a Superman movie with Batman making an appearance.
However, the Zack Snyder venture eventually turned out to be something like a Batman movie featuring Superman and a Justice League prequel. It was surely not a Man of Steel sequel!
But according to The Wrap, a sequel is currently in "active development". Their sources claim that Henry Cavill's character is "a top priority" for Warner Bros., and that they consider getting it right for audiences of "tantamount importance".
When can we expect the Man of Steel sequel to arrive? The outlet fails to unveil that piece of information. But their sources believe that the sequel is likely to roll into theaters after Ben Affleck's untitled Batman standalone movie is released.
There are two untitled DCEU installments scheduled for release on October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019. If the former is the Caped Crusader's standalone movie, the latter could be the Kryptonian superhero's second solo outing.
But we mustn't forget that multiple Suicide Squad spin-offs and a Booster Gold movie are also reportedly in the works.
Earlier this year, producer Charles Roven stated that they do have plans for a Man of Steel sequel, but they don't have it on the schedule, because they are "quite busy" with the movies they already have scheduled.
