Joker Prequel Film Sets September Shooting Date

Warner Bros. currently has six Joker-related movies in development. Some will feature the character as their main character; others will have him as an antagonist. But at this point, nobody really knows how many of these films will actually be made, especially since both Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix have been cast as The Joker in separate fims.

The Joaquin Phoenix film, a prequel set in the 1980s, was supposed to start shooting in May, but that never happened. However, THR recently reported that the film’s budget has been set at approximately $55 million and added that the prequel will launch a brand new DC movie label.

Following the THR report, Omega Underground broke the news that filming for the movie will take place in New York in September 2018, with Todd Phillips (Hangover trilogy) directing and Martin Scorsese producing. Rumor has it that the movie will be similar in tone to Scorcese’s Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. The implication of all of this is that the Joker prequel could arrive in theaters sometime in late 2019.

We should note that Joaquin Phoenix only recently confirmed that he’d accepted the role. He did mention during an interview with Collider that he found the role interesting because there were so many ways for an actor to portray him. The actor added that he’d had a positive experience when he met with Phillips.

Should Warner Bros. launch a new DC movie label? And should they launch it with a Joker origin movie?
