Joker Origin Story in the Works at Warner Bros.!

Before Suicide Squad was released, the movie’s marketing campaign led fans to believe that Jared Leto's Joker would play an essential part in the movie’s plot. However, hasty production and studio interference resulted in a film in which the Joker could have easily been cut out entirely. At the same time, Jared Leto said that he’d shot enough material for an entire flick.

Deadline recently reported that an entire flick focused on the Joker is now in the works at Warner Bros.! According to the website, it will be an origin story that will kick off a new type of universe. This universe won't necessarily be a part of larger DC Extended Universe. Also, familiar characters will be played by different actors.

The Killing Joke (Talking Comics)

The first sign is that Jared Leto won't play the Clown Prince of Crime in the movie! Do we need an origin story about the Joker? Before you answer, Deadline also reported that this won't be just another comic book movie. Instead, it will be a crime film set in the "˜80s, with similarities to Martin Scorsese's movies from that decade!

The website added that Todd Phillips (The Hangover series) is on board to direct and co-write the script with Scott Silver (8 Mile, The Fighter). But the biggest surprise is that Martin Scorsese himself will produce!

Again, do we need an origin story for the Joker? Well, we can’t give a definitive answer, given the names involved in this project and the reported setting.

Returning to the universe within the shared universe, we should mention that Warner Bros. also intends to mine the DC Comics Elseworlds stories. Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) is excited about making a Superman: Red Son film.

The Joker (Comic Book)

Will the new cast members create confusion? It’s possible. However, it’s also something new that could change the way the larger audience views the comic book movie genre (for example, it wouldn’t be necessary to see ten movies to understand a new offering).
