In a pretty comprehensive interview, Jeremy Renner talked about the big Hawkeye reveal - that is, how come we didn't know until now that he actually had a home to go to. And he hits all the right spots, mentioning in the process Captain America as the complete opposite, as well as the character's role in being the normal one in the entire Avengers team.
And that was indeed a big reveal, especially since the first Avengers movie presented Hawkeye as a most probable love interest for Black Widow - did this reveal work in the way it was intended? You tell us - in any way, in theory it sounds actually good.

“I think we’d all get pretty bored if it was just a bunch of killing of robots and slinging of arrows and slinging of hammers. It comes back to Clint’s story: Don’t we all just want to go home and have a life and be happy? Captain America battles with that. If you don’t know the plight of these flawed heroes, then what’s the point of it all? I think the intimate moments and the character development is crucial to especially movies like this. What comes up next, it’s ‘[Captain America: Civil War].’ It’s going to be arguing and trying to destroy each other. [ laughs]” (via Comic Book Movie)
So, basically, Hawkeye enjoys something that Captain America doesn't. But he is more, as Jeremy Renner continued.

You too thought that Hawkeye and Black Widow…
“It felt like Hawkeye was almost introduced as a new character, because he’s never really been explored prior with any sort of depth at all. I love the fallibility of a superhero who’s really just a guy with a really high skill set, and Joss was able to come up with a really cool idea. [Hawkeye] can kind of be a really fantastic grounding rod for the group. These are all things we talked about as far as the reason why he’s needed on the team, ultimately.” (via Comic Book Movie)
And that pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? According to the actor, this isn't the way in which his character's family was supposed to be introduced. However"¦ And even more, he doesn't know if Hawkeye's family will be introduced again in any sequels.
Nonetheless, we know that he has left the team. But since his wife and more was introduced, now we know how he could be pulled back into the game.
