We have less than two months to go before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 rolls into theaters. It’s just been revealed that Michael Rosenbaum, who plays the iconic DC supervillain Lex Luthor in Smallville, has been added to the cast roster for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe installment.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn confirmed Rosenbaum's casting during his latest visit to The Adam Carolla Show. He didn’t disclose the character's name, but made it clear that the 44-year-old actor isn't playing a minor character.
According to Gunn, both Rosenbaum and Sylvester Stallone are playing Marvel characters that are worthy of attention. We’ve known for a while that the '80s action icon would play a member of the Nova Corps in the May 5, 2017 release, but we weren't sure whether he’d play an original character or one from the comic books. The director said:
We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which people don't know about. Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters"¦My friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent role in the movie, and it sort of works in tandem with Sly's character.
In addition to his Smallville role, Rosenbaum also portrayed Dutch Nilbog in Fox's Breaking In and Buddy Dobbs in TV Land's Impastor. He also lent his voice to Wally West and a few other characters in various animated DC projects.
