Gambit and Wolverine are two major players within the X-Men universe as adapted for the big screen. Is that right to say? "˜Cause while the first has his solo debut programmed for 2016, the latter is expected to make an exit in 2017.
I don't know what quid pro quo is that, but I'll surely miss Wolverine as portrayed by Hugh Jackman, regardless of who will play the X-Men veteran next. Granted, I'm keen on seeing the bulky Gambit Channing Tatum promises to deliver.
Well, with that in mind, Gambit and Wolverine will likely not sit the rest of the events out until their upcoming solos.
That fact the yet to be titled Wolverine 3 movie is Hugh Jackman's last act in the X-Men Universe is known. Can we assume Gambit will debut on the big screen in his standalone movie?
So, while Wolverine has proven himself, Gambit is only at the beginning. Will they meet on screen? If so, the only chance for that to happen is X-Men: Apocalypse with the current cast: Hugh Jackman for Wolverine and Channing Tatum for Gambit.
Gambit and Wolverine in casting call for Apocalypse
A casting call published by Calltime indicates just that: Gambit and Wolverine will get the chance to meet on the big screen.
The part that grabs my attention in this respect reads like this:
"The cast of X-Men: Apocalypse will feature a who's who of X-Men characters and some of Hollywood's most talented performers playing them including Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games) as Mystique, Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street) as Gambit, Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave) as Magneto, Golden Globe nominee James McAvoy (The Last King of Scotland) as Charles Xavier, Academy Award nominee Hugh Jackman (Les Misérables) as Wolverine, 2-time Golden Globe nominee Rose Byrne (Neighbors) as Moira MacTaggert, Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) as Beast, Olivia Munn (The Newsroom) as Psylocke, 3-time Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) as Jean Grey, Kodi Smit-McPhee (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) as Nightcrawler, Alexandra Shipp (Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B) as Storm, Tye Sheridan (The Stanford Prison Experiment) as Cyclops and Golden Globe nominee Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens) as the villain Apocalypse".
Indeed, this is not a confirmation proper: Gambit and Wolverine are yet to be officially announced for X-Men: Apocalypse. But I think they surely must have had their sources before they came up with this lineup.
Plus, think this way: how would it be for Wolverine to make his exit just like that, without something to build towards it? Mostly if we take into account Hugh Jackman has played in all the X-Men movies so far? Wouldn't it be awkward for him to sit Apocalypse out?
Then, having the audience familiarized with a character before their solo debut is a common practice in the industry of comic book movies. So that would work as an argument for Gambit's cameo in Apocalypse.
What do you think, guys? Should we trust this call? "˜Cause I surely trust my line of reasoning! Have your say below and stay tuned! We'll bring you the hottest scoop on all things X-Men!
