Earlier today, we were officially confirmed that the Spider-Man: Homecoming is the title of the new webslinger's upcoming standalone flick. And now, we might have already got the name of the actor who would play the antagonist in the movie! According to Variety and multiple other outlets, it's Michael Keaton whom Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are eyeing for a villain role in Spider-Man: Homecoming!
Keaton portrayed the titular superhero in Tim Burton's 1989 flick Batman and 1992 follow-up Batman Returns. So, if he eventually seals a deal for appearing in the July 7, 2017 release, it will mark a switch from DC Comics to Marvel Comics for the actor. But he won't be the first one to swap from one side to the other. He will just enroll to the long list of actors that already includes Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Halle Berry, Natalie Portman, Tommy Lee Jones, J.K. Simmons and many others.
According to the reports, Keaton is in early talks with Marvel/Sony about portraying the undisclosed baddie in Spider-Man: Homecoming. And both studios' representatives have offered "˜no comments' about the report.
So, things might not work out between the actor and the studios ultimately. But we can expect to come across a confirmation, positive or negative, within the next couple of months. This is because the Jon Watts flick will kick off its production this summer.
Apart from Tom Holland‘s titular superhero, Marisa Tomei and Zendaya are also on board for Spider-Man: Homecoming. While Tomei will portray Aunt May, Zendaya's role is kept under wraps.
Is Michael Keaton in talks play Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming?
According to the latest rumor, the standalone flick will feature Adrian Toomes, aka Vulture, as the prime antagonist. If there's any truth behind this, Keaton might be eyed to the particular villain. Vulture was also about to appear in Sam Raimi's cancelled Spider-Man 4. Who else could be a more appropriate fit for playing Vulture other than the one who played Birdman?
And who could be more fitting for a Spider-Man villain role other than the one who personally doesn't like the superhero! Remember what how he drew a distinction between the Dark Knight and the webslinger? He doesn’t like Spidey’s weeping habit! Batman would never do that!
