The Flash movie might have encountered an unexpected hindrance in its progress due to Seth Grahame-Smith's sudden exit from the director's post, and its release date might possibly be pushed back. But with Rick Famuyiwa hired as Grahame-Smith's replacement at the helm, the movie is once again moving ahead.
And it looks like the new director has already made a shortlist of actresses he would consider for the role of Iris West in The Flash movie. According to Variety, his top choice for the role of Barry Allen's love interest is the actress-cum-singer Kiersey Clemons.
Many may find that eyeing Clemons for the female lead role in The Flash movie is no great surprise. This is because the 22-year-old actress has worked with the director in the past. She portrayed a lead character named Diggy in Rick Famuyiwa's most critically acclaimed flick, Dope.
Clemons played a main character named Lucy in Steven Spielberg's science fiction TV series Extant. She also had a main role in the MTV series Eye Candy and a recurring role in the Amazon Video series Transparent.
According to The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit, Clemons isn't the only actress considered for The Flash movie role. Two other actresses, both British, are also in the mix: 25-year-old singer/actress Rita Ora and 21-year-old actress Lucy Boynton.
Rita Ora is more recognized for her singing than her acting. Her notable big-screen roles include Mia Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, a role she will reprise in the 2017 sequel Fifty Shades Darker, and Maria Escobar in Southpaw.
Lucy Boynton is best known for her roles in feature films like The Blackcoat's Daughter and Copperhead.
The list of actresses makes one thing clear - Rick Famuyiwa has not made up his mind about Iris West's ethnicity in The Flash movie. She might eventually be an African-American, like Candice Patton's version in the television series. She might also be white with red hair, similar to the woman depicted in the comic books.
