The eighth installment of The Fast and the Furious comes with many changes. The director has said that it’s going to be more than just an action movie. Amid stunts and fast cars, the movie will “also give you character and great story and plotting and narrative."
Now, to add to fans’ excitement, the studio is looking at an Oscar-winner to play the movie’s villain. Deadline reports:
Fast 8 director F. Gary Gray and screenwriter Chris Morgan are inserting a fierce female villain into the script. They are said to have their eye on a particular actress, too "” Charlize Theron, whose gritty performance in Mad Max: Fury Road was certainly was a welcome force in the multiple Oscar-nominated George Miller film.
Nothing official yet about Charlize Theron featuring in Fast 8
For now, this is just anticipation, because we can’t know if Theron will take the role. Deadline says that Theron’s schedule is free, so now it’s a matter of chemistry. Given that the actress and F. Gary Gray have collaborated in the past (The Italian Job) the process should be easier than normal. It would be a “win-win” situation for both Charlize Theron and Universal Studios.
The script is not finished yet, and the actress hasn’t seen it, but this shouldn’t be too great an impediment. The movie will feature more than one strong female, as Michelle Rodriguez will return.
In case you didn’t hear, Fast 8 will be explosive. The crew is preparing "the largest explosion ever in Iceland." It seems that, despite the fact that the plot is set in New York, the movie has other filming locations, including Iceland or, as recently reported, Cuba. A studio spokesperson has revealed the following:
Universal Pictures is currently in the process of seeking approval from the United States and Cuban governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment of the Fast & Furious series in Cuba. (via Lawyerherald)
Even for people who may not be fans of the franchise, Fast 8 sounds good! The movie is set to release April 14, 2017.
