Even if the first movie was a box office hit, a Doctor Strange 2 sequel wasn't officially announced until now. Given the character's fate in Infinity War as well as the secrecy concerning Marvel's Phase IV movies, it is understandable.
However, the sequel was teased. Most recently, director Scott Derrickson posted a pic featuring the Sorcerer Supreme on his Instagram account. And the photo revealed two important details about Doctor Strange 2. In this way, apparently, the sequel will deal with both betrayal and acceptance.
So the plans have been made - even if nothing official has transpired.
According to The GWW, Marvel will shoot next June a new movie, one that hasn't been announced just yet. The website lists The Eternals, Black Widow, and Doctor Strange 2 as possible contenders.
At the same time, The Mirror has published a new reports, according to which Benedict Cumberbatch has received a substantial in pay for the sequel. According to the publication, the star of this solo franchise will receive $9.5 million, which is $6 million more than what he earned for the first movie.
Given these two reports, as well as Scott Derrickson's tease, one can only understand that Marvel is gearing up for this sequel.
Doctor Strange played an essential part in the events of Infinity War. Furthermore, his first solo outing did more than just tease a sequel, with Mordo as a main antagonist. So it makes sense for Marvel to push forward.
According to The GWW, this mysterious project will most likely nab a 2020 release date. Thus, the movie will be released on either 1st of May or 31st of July 2020.
Until then, Benedict Cumberbatch hasn't revealed whether he'll appear in Avengers 4 or not. But given the role he has played in Infinity War, we'd be surprised if he won't at least cameo.
