You’ve all seen that pic with Hugh Jackman, Pierce Brosnan, and Ryan Reynolds on a couch, right? It sparked quite a few comments online, with many saying that the former James Bond may be up for a role in the Deadpool sequel. At that time, this was wishful thinking for those who saw Pierce Brosnan as being capable of playing such a role.
According to Forbes reporter Simon Thompson, the three actors actually were teasing Brosnan's involvement in the Deadpool sequel. So it wasn't all just fun and games. And, according to the same source, Brosnan is indeed being courted to portray Cable - which is a bit weird, given his rather slight build.
But, hey! It hasn’t been officially confirmed just yet, so things may change.
Thompson reported that Deadpool 2 director David Leitch let it slip that James Bond hadn't been cast just yet:
So I said, “Congratulations on casting Pierce Brosnan.” And he went, “We have not yet.” (via CBM)
Making everyone believe that Brosnan has been cast as Cable could be just a tactic on the part of Deadpool's marketing geniuses. After all, who would believe that in this day and age a director would fall for such a trick question?
What do you think? Will Pierce Brosnan end up playing Cable? Or will someone else be chosen?
As far as we’re concerned, there are quite a few others who might fit the role better. The list would include, obviously, Ron Perlman (who has once again joined Guillermo del Toro in campaigning for Hellboy 3) and Steven Lang (come on - he certainly belongs on your list of actors who should portray Cable).
Anyway, Deadpool 2 aims for a 2018 release date. But we wouldn't be too upset if it came in 2019, especially if this gives the team more time to develop a kick-ass movie that’s even better than the first one!
