It’s official: Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Strange in Avengers: Infinity War, the two-part epic project being helmed by the Russo brothers. The film is currently in rehearsals, and is scheduled to begin shooting in November. And now the Sorcerer Supreme himself has confirmed that he will appear in Infinity War, alongside countless other MCU characters.
In a recent interview with Empire, Cumberbatch discussed the difficulties of filming Infinity War, in terms of coordinating so many actors for the expansive project.
"To get us all together will be quite something,” he said. “That's why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space to see how that unfolds.”
It had been widely assumed that Cumberbatch would be part of the Infinity War cast, but it’s nice to hear the news officially. Marvel will surely be confirming more of our casting suspicions as production gets underway.
Doctor Strange hits theaters in the US on November 4. Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Karl Mordo, and Mads Mikkelsen as Kaecilius will star along with Cumberbatch.
