Captain Marvel - Actress and Director (almost) Confirmed

Captain Marvel

A couple of months ago, Kevin Feige said that the beginning of the summer will bring the first news about Captain Marvel. Set to be released in 2019, the movie’s focus will be on the MCU’s first true super heroine (with actual superpowers). So, as with Black Panther (the first MCU solo flick about a black superhero), there is a lot riding on it.

But the fans shouldn't be worried, because various sources have confirmed the identity of the actress Marvel has approached to play Captain Marvel. And she is in no way any of the actresses who appear in the many fan casting lists on the web.

Variety says that a few actresses have been approached for the role. However, the frontrunner is Brie Larson, who won this year’s Academy Award for best leading actress in Room. She also appeared in Don Jon, Rampart, 21 Jump Street, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and The Spectacular Now. So, even though she'll be just 27 in October, she has made quite a few good movies already.

Most importantly, besides being another top actress waiting to be recruited into the MCU, Brie Larson is another Disney product.

This isn't all, since The Hollywood Reporter complements the news by adding the name of the front runner for the role of Captain Marvel director. And, contrary to other rumors making the rounds, it isn't a director who has the same name as the main actress. Instead, The Babadook director Jennifer Kent is the one most likely to direct Captain Marvel. Does this mean that Captain Marvel will have some horror accents? Not at all - if we are looking at the last two Captain America movies.

Take all of this with a grain of salt, though.

Captain Marvel is still a long way from its release.
