As expected, a sequel to Aquaman is already in the works at Warner Bros. but it seems like James Wan is in no mood of committing to direct the movie right away.
With a not-so-impressive 64 percent approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes, Aquaman has gone on to reach the extremely impressive milestone of grossing over $1billion at the global box office. As of now, the movie ($1.0752 billion) is less than $10 million away from overthrowing The Dark Knight Rises ($1.0849 billion) and taking the crown of the highest-grossing DC Comics adaptation of all time.
Such a performance at the box office guarantees a sequel, and unsurprisingly, Warner Bros. has already begun developing the inevitable Aquaman 2. According to Deadline, the studio is currently trying to entice James Wan to return at the helm.
However, Wan, who is now the only director to have delivered a billion-dollar movie for two different studios, doesn't seem to be ready to sign on the dotted line just yet. The trade suggests that he will reach a decision about whether to direct the sequel or move on once he has glanced through a finalized script.

But of course, the studio wants him back as badly as it did Patty Jenkins on Wonder Woman 1984. So, it is giving Wan the authority to oversee the development of Aquaman 2, which includes the selection of screenwriters to pen the seaworthy script that he is looking for.
It is obvious that Warner Bros. would try its best to seal a deal with James Wan to return at the helm for the next adventure of the King of the Seven Seas, and as soon as possible. It has already developed a good relationship with the director, thanks to their previous collaboration on the Conjuring franchise. So perhaps, Wan's committing to direct the sequel is only a matter of time and there’s nothing to worry about.
