Thanks to Lex Luthor's research on metahumans; Batman's retrieving it from LexCorp's mainframe and decrypting it; and Wonder Woman's watching one of the videos, we did get to see Jason Momoa's Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice! If Lex, Bruce, and Diana hadn't done what they did, the King of the Seven Seas wouldn't have had the chance to make his live-action cinematic debut!
But we definitely hope that Momoa's character will have a far more significant role in next year's Justice League. The last thing we would want to do is to thank someone again for watching a clip featuring him in a movie to show us that he is in the movie!
And we hope that Aquaman will have an even bigger role in his standalone movie that rolls into theaters on July 27, 2018. We already know that James Wan, the director of Saw, The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2, and Furious 7, is set to helm the movie. And we also know that he doesn't intend to leave the project.
Now, thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we know that the Aquaman movie has found its screenwriter. And it's former LAPD detective Will Beall (Okay, that's an odd detail to put your finger on), who is best known for penning the script of the 2013 flick Gangster Squad.
Back in August 2014, Warner Bros. hired Beall and Kurt Johnstad to come up with two separate scripts for an Aquaman movie. Last November, the studio signed David Leslie Johnson to pen the script.
Beall had already left the DC Extended Universe installment by then. He got involved in the Training Day television pilot as writer and executive producer. CBS has ordered that series.
Now the detective-turned-scribe is back again to write Aquaman. And this time there isn't another writer doing a separate script.
However, the outlet suggests that he is "working off a detailed treatment" from James Wan and Geoff Johns. He is working closely with the director and the co-head of DC Films to make sure that they have a great script for the movie.
