Tyrese Gibson has been voicing his interest in playing Green Lantern for a while now. More exactly, he'd be willing to bring John Stewart on the big screen.
With Common locked in for Suicide Squad, it seems Gibson's chances to actually get to play the established DC hero just got better. Now, let's attach a context to that.
Collider and Latino Review maintain a theory - brought by us to you here - that the Green Lantern reboot programmed for 2020 will focus on more than just one Green Lantern.
And while Guy Gardner remains a vague possibility, Hal Jordan and John Stewart will most certainly be slotted in the reboot. The said sources indicate Chris Pine will play Hal Jordan and Tyrese Gibson will be cast as John Stewart.

These two Instagram posts came 2 days apart, the first on June 24, the second on June 26. Anyone might think this is the way the American model turned singer turned actor found it fit to announce he is actually John Stewart.
What else could one understand from strong lines like "S**t just got real" or "The oath has been taken"? Oh, right, we could also see how this is an indirect confirmation that Chris Pine is Hal Jordan?
The explanations Tyrese gave in the aftermath of these two posts are a bit underwhelming. Hit 3 to see the actor's official position.
"It’s definitely the fans’ fault"
ET talked to Tyrese Gibson and naturally asked him about the meaning of his posts: will he play John Stewart in 2020's Green Lantern?
"There are certain things I can’t speak on", says Tyrese Gibson, adding: "But I will say, however this works out, it’s definitely the fans’ fault. I was at home minding my own business and fans start creating these fan-made videos of me as Green Lantern and I looked into it."
But no, it's not just his penchant for fan-made art. Something real also happened: "I’ve been a fan of the Green Lantern ["¦] I took the oath, and I had a meeting at Warner Bros. and certain things were said and talked about. We’ll just see what happens."
And if you have doubts about Tyrese's ability to play Green Lantern, learn that the actor himself thinks he's the perfect choice:
"Listen, these muscles are here and they’re ready to be used ["¦] There are lot of people, domestically and internationally, who’s got love with your boy." Adding: "I’m coming into this thing with some fans and some box office receipts behind my name and I say that proudly and humbly".
And mostly humbly, right? Finally, "I just think I deserve a shot at suiting up and becoming the Green Lantern".
