A deleted scene from Avengers: Endgame has been released online that is sure to pull at the heartstrings of Marvel fans. As the record-breaking movie gets ready to make its way to home video, certain bonus features have begun to make their way online. Such is the case with this deleted scene, which takes place just after the film's climax, as shared by IGN. Have a look.
The scene picks up right after Tony snaps his fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet, wiping away Thanos and all of his many followers from existence. Unfortunately, as anyone who has seen the movie is well aware, the snap was simply too much for Tony to take. We see Pepper consoling her mortally wounded husband, just as it played out in theaters.
However, we then shift over to the many heroes who gathered to fight the Mad Titan and, starting with Hawkeye, one by one, everyone begins taking a knee. Even Doctor Strange, who, in Infinity War, made it clear he would put the fate of the universe ahead of Tony's life, looks devastated and joins the extended Avengers lineup in honoring their fallen counterpart. It's a touching, brutal moment.
As well done as this scene may be, it would have run the risk of feeling a bit redundant. The Tony Stark funeral scene at the end, where everyone is gathered to mourn the loss of Iron Man, essentially accomplishes the same thing. And, considering the movie already ran for 3 hours and 2 minutes, cuts needed to be made. Speaking recently, directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo revealed that the funeral scene in question is possibly the most expensive scene ever put to film.
"We used to joke, and I don't know if it's joking, it's probably the most expensive shot in movie history," Joe Russo said. "That's a lot of salary on the screen there. At the very least it's the most expensive day of extras in movie history, outside of Cleopatra."
Indeed, all of those actors don't come cheap. Even if they are just standing there. Another note about the deleted scene. This shows us Gamora, who is walking off going lord only knows where. A major question many fans had at the end of Endgame was regarding Gamora's fate. So, we know she's out there somewhere and that's likely something we'll tackle in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Here's the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame.
"The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios' grand conclusion to twenty-two films, "˜Avengers: Endgame.'"
Those looking to pick up the movie for themselves can grab a digital copy July 30. Anyone waiting for the Blu-ray/DVD or 4K edition will have to wait until August 13.
So what do you think? Should this scene have made the cut? Is it better that the Russo brothers left it on the cutting room floor? Sound off in the comments!
