The first official trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp has arrived! It indicates that we’re about to see yet another highly entertaining Marvel Cinematic Universe installment. It may even be a cut above the original movie.
The the 101-second trailer opens as Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) says to Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), "I just have one question. When Cap needed help, if I'd asked you, would you have come?" She answers, "I guess we'll never know. But if you had, you would've never been caught."
The remaining footage proves that Hope isn’t just engaging in empty self-congratulation. The Wasp has knocked around plenty of bad guys. In this trailer, she’s pretty much the only one doing so. Paul Rudd's superhero doesn't do much, other than going big in front of a flock of civilians in one scene and riding a new Ant-thony in another.
If anyone’s glad that Ant-Man has found an equal partner in the Wasp, it's his adorable daughter Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson). In the trailer, she advises her dad that he should find an ally:
Maybe you need someone watching your back, like a partner.
As the trailer continues, Lang is shocked to learn that Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) included wings with the Wasp’s suit. "Hold on! You gave her wings?" Hank replied that the suit is also equipped with blasters. Scott goes on, "So you didn't have that tech available for me?" He’s shocked when Hank says, "No, I did."
We also get a first glimpse Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), the movie’s villain, in this trailer. Her stunt double appeared in costume in a photo and video from the set, but this is our first look at the character with her mask on. We’ll have to wait for additional trailers to see the supervillain in action.
Laurence Fishburne briefly appears as the recently added character Bill Foster, but Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) is nowhere to be seen. The trailer does appear to confirm October’s rumored details concerning the movie's opening.
