Since its November 4 release, Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange has enjoyed the top spot at the American box office, although it’s now been overtaken by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Nevertheless, the Marvel film is well on its way to $600 million in total ticket sales, having already surpassed the total sales of X-Men: Apocalypse.
Strange now sits comfortably with a total of $571.5 million globally, well within range of Iron Man, which took in $585.2 million, and ahead of Ant-Man, which totalled $519 million.
The film has earned more than $100 million in China, an impressive accomplishment in a country where movie sales have been relatively lackluster this year. The performance of Doctor Strange has been better than expected, considering that the Sorcerer Supreme isn’t as well-known in the MCU as other Marvel heroes like Iron Man or Captain America.
Perhaps the popularity of star Benedict Cumberbatch has something to do with the film’s box office success.
