If you thought the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad had some parts missing, or even if you loved it anyway, the good news is that Warner Bros. has announced that its Extended Cut will arrive on home video before Christmas! While the special features and deleted scenes are yet to be announced, they have confirmed that it will include an unrated version that runs 13 minutes longer than the one we saw in theaters.
The Extended Cut for the David Ayer venture will be released on Digital HD on November 15, 2016 and on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 13, 2016.
The studio has launched a new teaser trailer as a means of announcing the arrival of the Suicide Squad Extended Cut. Unlike the trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's Ultimate Cut, which featured loads of new footage, this one hardly offers anything new.
It's pretty concise, less than half-a-minute in length, and contains just a few snippets of new footage featuring Margot Robbie's Dr. Harleen Quinzel from a time before she was tortured by The Joker and transformed into Harley Quinn. You can check it out below!
Suicide Squad may have earned around $740 million worldwide, but it isn't one of those movies that the critics loved. It has a rating of 26% on Rotten Tomatoes. Batman v Superman was also butchered by the critics, but when its Ultimate Cut was released, many of them said they actually loved it. But that was around half an hour longer than its theatrical cut, and it was actually a Director's Cut.
David Ayer made it clear in a couple of interviews that the version of Suicide Squad we saw on the big screen was his cut. So, whether the movie manages to redeem itself with the upcoming Extended Cut remains to be seen.
